WHAT IS ANTI WRINKLE / ‘BOTOX’ TREATMENT?
Anti – wrinkle treatment involves the injection of ‘Botulinum Toxin’ into the muscles to weaken their contraction power and in this way preventing lines and wrinkles from appearing.
It is used to soften existing lines as well as preventing lines and wrinkles from worsening and later becoming static / permanent.
There are many brands of Botulinum Toxin on the market, the common ones being ‘BOTOX®’, ‘Bocouture’ and ‘Azzalure’. Botulinum Toxin is a Prescription-Only medication and can only be prescribed by a Doctor.
How is it performed?
Botulinum Toxin is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles, with minimal discomfort. The procedure takes a few minutes and usually no anesthesia is
required. It generally takes between 2 to 12 days to take full effect and can last anywhere between 3 to 6 months.
Are there any side effects?
Injections with botulinum toxin are generally well tolerated.
The most common side effects of Anti- Wrinkle injections are temporary bruising, redness and Headaches.
Other side effects, depending on the area being treated may include eyebrow or eyelid drooping, drooping of the corner of the mouth, or inability to use a straw,
depending on where the client has been injected, however these are not common.
Precautions:
One should not rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection, or lie down for three hours after injection.
The areas that have been injected should be kept clean and untouched to avoid the risk of infection.
